About Us
Functional Technologies Ltd is developing a new generation of large-format industrial 3D printing systems, designed to be manufactured at scale and made available to industrial customers through a flexible hire model.
Each system is planned as a self-contained manufacturing unit installed inside a standard shipping container — placed where production is needed, connected and commissioned without requiring a dedicated additive-manufacturing facility.
The platform is being designed around a 2 m × 2 m × 2 m target build volume, with a future AI layer intended to automate more of the printing workflow. Features still under development are described as planned rather than currently available.

Malcolm Knott is a Director of Functional Technologies Ltd. His work is focused on advancing the company's containerised industrial 3D printing concept and its future automation roadmap.

Development of industrial printers with a target 2 m × 2 m × 2 m build envelope and the potential for larger configurations. Built for producing large parts, prototypes, tooling and components where conventional desktop-scale printing is not suitable.
The complete unit is transported to the customer's required location, positioned and prepared for use — placing production capability close to the point of need. Site requirements, delivery planning, connection and commissioning are agreed before each deployment.
A planned software and control layer intended to automate more of the 3D printing workflow, improve consistency and reduce routine manual intervention. Functions include planned automation of print setup, workflow control, system monitoring and production decision support.
