A New Class of
Industrial Printer

Functional Technologies Ltd is developing a new generation of large-format industrial 3D printing systems, designed to be manufactured at scale and made available to industrial customers through a flexible hire model.

Each system is planned as a self-contained manufacturing unit installed inside a standard shipping container — placed where production is needed, connected and commissioned without requiring a dedicated additive-manufacturing facility.

The platform is being designed around a 2 m × 2 m × 2 m target build volume, with a future AI layer intended to automate more of the printing workflow. Features still under development are described as planned rather than currently available.

Mission

To make industrial additive manufacturing easier to access and deploy by providing large-format, containerised 3D printing systems where customers need them.

Vision

To automate 3D printing through AI and develop scalable, increasingly autonomous manufacturing units that can produce parts close to the point of need.

Founded

Functional Technologies Ltd was incorporated on 17 September 2024 (company number 15962870). Established to develop engineering and manufacturing technologies, with current focus on deployable large-format 3D printing.

Services &
Capabilities

A hire-based, containerised large-format 3D printing platform for industrial users, supported by on-site deployment and a planned AI automation layer.

01

Containerised Industrial 3D Printer Hire

Industrial customers hire a self-contained 3D printing unit delivered inside a 20ft or 40ft shipping container, with the core equipment pre-installed. Designed for organisations that need flexible manufacturing capacity without permanently installing a conventional printer facility.

Who it's for Manufacturers, engineering firms and industrial organisations needing temporary, project-based or additional additive-manufacturing capacity.
02

Large-Format 3D Printing Systems

Development of industrial printers with a target 2 m × 2 m × 2 m build envelope and the potential for larger configurations. Built for producing large parts, prototypes, tooling and components where conventional desktop-scale printing is not suitable.

Who it's for Industrial businesses producing large-scale components where standard printers fall short.
03

On-Site Manufacturing Deployment

The complete unit is transported to the customer's required location, positioned and prepared for use — placing production capability close to the point of need. Site requirements, delivery planning, connection and commissioning are agreed before each deployment.

Who it's for Factories, project sites, infrastructure operators, remote facilities and industrial organisations needing on-location capacity.
04

AI-Enabled Print Automation

In Development

A planned software and control layer intended to automate more of the 3D printing workflow, improve consistency and reduce routine manual intervention. Functions include planned automation of print setup, workflow control, system monitoring and production decision support.

Who it's for Industrial users seeking repeatable, scalable production and a route towards increasingly autonomous additive manufacturing.
